I don't know much about portrait shot. This is a good portrait, but, I think, her expression an eyes and face should be a bit hotter, since the theme and background make me feel that she's hot! :) sorry if I wrong. :) regards Theerapong

Thanks for that observation, Darren. I do place a very high value on a models' trust and comfort, and I never put models in poses or outfits they're not comfortable with.

Saikat, the background is quite simple: I was using gray seamless paper behind her, and I put a 20-degree grid on one strobe (to make it a spot) and put a red gel on it. I turned my softbox strobe up higher so the gray actually faded to black outside the edge of the spot.
If you are using neutral backgrounds (white and grey) you can color them how you wish with your lights and a couple gels.
Does that make sense?
