You love going into these places Mike......The stove is way to hot in this, looks like you cleaned off the one section for the shot.....but than your going into a very deep void to the right and top subsequently loosing any balance of shape or shapes.......A still can have void or blank spaces but there needs to be a balance so that the shapes and voids create the composition.
Your sense of balance and composition is so much stronger in your people pics....I suggest you look at stills and inanimate objects with the same sense of rhythm and movement that you obviously see in your people pics.....

Keep at it with these and look to that balance........

try setting up a couple of stills on your table and just look at each shape you place down, a book, a bottle etc....and see how the shape of each relates to the other and what shape the non object or space left over creates and than there relations to the actual objects shapes.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah it is probably alittle too hot in the one area. This was actually my first attempt at manipulating lighting. I used a posterboard that I coated with reflective gold contact paper and reflected window light (any better suggestion?). Oh yeah and I did sneak into this abandoned camplodge. Choung if you're living there, i'm sorry i'm always taking pictures of your stuff :).

A softfocus lens or filter would've been perfect for this one! Hehheh. Seriously, it looks like you snuck into my apartment to take this one. The whitest part of the stove surface is a little hot in my opinion though (no pun intended).
