Along the drive through Capitol Reef's National Monument you will find many rows of apple groves that provide a beautiful addition to images of the spectacular mountain views. If you research the history of the Native Americans who settled here long ago, you will learn that the tried to make this valley agriculturally friendly for future residence of this area. What sprang out of the farming development here were these beautiful apple groves that blossom with the most wonderful fragrance every spring, and provide food for the 100's of local mule deer that winter among the groves and live off of the fallen fruit. Deer are so abundant here in this valley, you can almost guarantee to find one staring at you in the face if you do any camping out in the park nearby. They are a wonderful addition to the park and I love to see them every time I am lucky enough to vacation in this wonderous place. This shot is of a small grove at the end of the park where the water had pooled up after irrigating that afternoon.
