About This man is spraying snail pesticide on the water in the rice paddy. This is in preparation to planting the rice seedlings or young plants in bunches.
The golden snail which can be found almost throughout every fresh water in the major island where rice fields are near, is not endemic to the Philippines. It was introduced in the 70s as an alternative source of food but later became a major pest to the farmers until present time.
The toxin of this spray sometimes have found their way to the main streams of fresh water. It is a necessary evil because without it, the uncontrollable snail will consume most of the rice plant.

sorry, this is just how I can explain the situation from a layman's knowledge.

'Layman's knowledge' is enough - no point in being overtechnical!

More to the point, the picture is well done, especially with that reflection in the water and in the look being given by the man.

The chemical spray over the water and the reflection, very beautiful technically.. but realistic, it's so painful.!!

Thanks Fabio, the natural enemy is fish which is very few in the Paddies and populated areas where this golden snail proliferate. There is great shortage in rice now and it is the necessary evil. What is ironic is that this chemical pesticide are sold to the country by the very people who introduced these snails. : }
good day, thanks for your insight and comment.

a very excellent picture (as with regards to the snail... in itzs country of origin there must be natural enemies which decimate and counterbalance the snails' population... othewise you'll poison your own vital fod constantly and will die not from hunger, but from slow chronical deseases or cancer)
