We are a summer rainfall area, hence the rains in January, whereas CT is a winter rainfall area. The garden route, however, gets rain all year round.
The problem we have in the freestate and in most of Africa is not the amount of rainfall(Bloem gets an average of about 500mm-550mm pa), but the evaporation rate, which is much higher than in other parts of the world. So if we dont get constant, regular rain, the world tends to dry out pretty quick.
You will find that most South Africans are usually very gratefull for the rain.
Yes, I live in Bloem in Langenhovenpark. Bayswater is quite a nice area, but still no patch to Clarens.

When I was there in January it was raining quite a lot! Much more then CT, although the Garden Route was more like a swimmingpool inland.. Do you live inside town? My aunt lives in Bayswater in a ealderly home, quite happy there:) They used to live in Clarens, quite a difference! xxJen

Thanks Jen,
This was actually taken about 60-70km northwest of Bloem, but yes, its a bit dry these days. We are hoping for some late summer rains.
Cheers, Stef
