Greg, I've taken a lot of these dandelion macros so let me add some (hopefully) constructive hints. First I find the dandelion itself to be slightly oblong, a little like it's drooping. If you are going for one with all it's spores intact, I'd find a more symmetrical or rounder one. Second, at least to me the aesthetic key to these shots is the point of focus. Since DOF is so shallow you can try to get the center sharp or the outside rim of the spores sharp. In your picture we have the closest spores in focus and that's it. So I'd experiment with either a much smaller aperture, or (making sure you are using spot focus) trying to pin down the center or the edges. Hope this helps.
