About	Paraje de la cuenca del río Miera en Cantabria, paisaje un tanto peculiar, ya que en el siglo XVII, en los pueblos aledaños se fundía el hierro para abastecer los muchos cañones de galeones y barcos de guerra de la época. Al necesitar cantidades enormes de madera para los hornos, muchos de los parajes están desarbolados: " El desarrollo del núcleo de La Cavada y del municipio de Riotuerto vino dado a raíz de la creación, en 1650, de las Reales Fábricas de Artillería de Liérganes y La Cavada, que suministraron armamento a las colonias y la armada del reino de España. En sus instalaciones de La Cavada llegaron a funcionar tres altos hornos que producirían armamento y munición de gran calidad y que llegaron a armar a la Armada Invencible del rey Felipe II. No obstánte el largo declive de las instalaciones comenzó a finales del siglo XVIII y es en 1835 cuando las instalaciones, ya sin niguna actividad, cierran." (Wikipedia) Tal es así, que cuando llueve mucho en este valle, el agua se lleva consigo mucha tierra y lodo y al no haber árboles que agarren ésta con sus raíces, al desembocar en la bahía de Santander, ésta se tiñe de un color ocre.
