Yes... a Caribbean feel, though the young man is mostly Sri Lankin with a touch of Portugese. The water in the background is Victoria's famous "upside river", the Yarra, known as the upsidedownriver, since it usually looks murky... lol...

Very nice portrait, my dear. As Colin said, great tones. And such a Caribbean feel to this even though it is probably as far away from there as possible. The water in the background and the foliage give that impression....

Why, thank you. I am very pleased with the tones also. :) (Scanned from a true B&W not machine print.)
As for the composition... Actually, the image is a crop from a larger one, since my beloved scanner decided not to allow this young man's knee to be scanned with any room at the side, (which in original print exists!), so it threw the image into chaos... lol... I had to then crop in TIGHT and do a balancing act as best I could. I am pleased you like it.
The grain you see is owing to the rather tight crop.
