I also really like Photomatix, it's the program I use as well. Indeed it takes a lot of skill and practice to achieve nice HDR. I have had some very odd looking images resulting from playing around with it, lol.

Thanks for your gracious comments, Sheila. HDR tonemapping has worked well for me with moving water subjects. The result is akin to a slow shutter. I rarely use PS CS2/3 HDR, instead favouring Photomatix, stand alone or tonemapping plugin. In general, HDR tonemapping is a beastly process with good results difficult to achieve. It takes time and practice to circumvent the unatural artifacts that are procuced with this tool.

great job with HDR/tonemapping! i have tried this with water very unsucessfully; the colors, clarity and composition are spot on as is exposure; this should be printed up, it's very pleasing to look at for long periods of time!
