Hi Todd, Thanks for your comment. According to my experience, Great White Egrets and Great Blue Herons are important vole's predators. I see both species very frequent preying upon small rodents; however it's not easy to photograph them in the act. However I have seen both actively preying upon fish. They are opportunistic predators and will eat what is available. Also, I follow your advice and here is the result. I still not very please with this shot, so I will keep my eyes open more GBH.
Unusual meal for a Heron. Nicely captured, great DOF. Have you considered a tighter crop, perhaps portrait? I don't find that the piece of body adds much of interest to the picture. There is, however, excellent detail in the head and vole.
Well done.
Todd
BTW, what ISO are you shooting? I'm guessing 400 by the shutter and aperture.
Stunning hawk-in-flight shots you have posted too, my friend.
Hi Dave, Thanks for commenting again. I just put some extra PS on this juvenile. Tomorrow morning I am going back to Half Moon Bay to shot more hawks and Great Blue Herons. Whish me luck. Yamil
