It was the water cooler comedy of 1979 (I think). Try to think of a englishly understated Paul Lynde. I was reminded hear of the second series when he founded a second hand shop called "grot" which he designed to fail by selling only entirely useless and flawed things but of course became a sickening success. The first was good too. I bought my wife a copy of the book recently but she couldn't get past a lot of the misogyny in it, prompting me to try to re-read it too after twenty years of not. I put it down pretty quick. Man there some miserably oppressive attitudes in those days that we took for granted, but I don't remember the actors putting that across in the series. You should be in for a treat! :)

THANK YOU!!!!!!! I never even heard of Reginald Perrin until your comment. I did a google, found BBC and read a ton (tonne???) about the show. I have agents, even now, at work to locate episodes for me. The grand internet and good friends... a combination never to be sneezed at. I will stop in this place when I get a chance. And maybe... even buy a bit or two.
