I was reading in some discussion about it over there, that a lot of folk would be looking for the more "traditional" still life - an arrangement of sorts kind of like the Dutch work. But, there ya go, wound up being all sorts of interpretations entered anyways.
With the free study, you have an entire month to shoot/edit/enter your best shot for that month. So July's free study submission ends on midnight of 31st, then there will be a week of voting for those. As long as your image was taken sometime in July, you're fine to enter :)

Ah, well, Live and learn. Like I said, I didn't know what constitutes a still life. I'll check into some definitions so I understand it a little better.
You suggest free study, aren't these things date specific, having to be shot during the week of the challenge? There's still a lot of rules I don't understand there.

Oh yes, love the setting moon in this...makes for a very Gothic feeling. In viewing all of these, I keep expecting to see the aliens landing...lol.:)

Sweet! Hadn't even noticed the two new open challenges. I'm setting something up for Rhythm this weekend. If it doesn't work out, I'll one of those a go.
Don't be worried about entering. Have you seen some of the cr*p that gets entered week after week??? I think you've got what it takes to mix it with the big boys there Dave.
Just remember to mind the editing and take the results with a grain of salt. At the end of the day, we're just shooting for a virtual ribbon...

Well, if we're talking about challenges at the "other" site, I'd have to say probably not. Only because the fact that there's moving clouds, stars, moon... you'd probably get hit with a lot of "DNMC" (does not meet challenge) comments/low votes.
However, in my personal opinion, I would consider this still life presented in an 'out of the box' manner. Not only that, because they're so technically perfect and beautiful to look at, I'd find it very difficult to find fault in terms of challenge parameter. In other words, I'd be looking for justification for a vote of 10. It's great stuff.
Is there are still life thing going on there? Or do you speak of another "other"?

Hmmm... this was my least fav of the four I chose to post...
so do these qualify as still life? I have no clue. I always figure a still life is a bowl of fruit on a table. Only still until eaten, of course.

Yup, hard to go past this one as well. I think you're decision to leave the first two cars in the dark, was the right one. They'd be way too competitive otherwise. And then there's that moon. Nice...
