About Another shot of the famed Cadillac Ranch.

This shot was taken with a 95 second exposure. The circle lighting you see on the ground is from painting it with a flashlight during the exposure. Additionally, a lite amount of light was used on the undercarriages.

Thank you very much, Michael. I learned quite a bit on this particular shoot... and hope to improve my technique the next time. I wasn't completely happy with the focus on the stars, though.

It is very difficult to tell the results while looking at the LCD display in the camera. Had I not worked all day, driven all night and then played in this field for hours, I would have downloaded the pictures and seen the actual results. I'm happy but not 100%.

Best wishes,
Dave

Thank you, Kiarang for the tips. Exactly the type of input I look for. I am by no means a professional photographer. I experiment and learn from others. So your input is welcomed.

Thanks,
Dave

Indeed a very creative (& strange view and location), but think that exposure time wasn't perfect. (why 95seconds), and then iso 400 and F-stop= 5.0?
closer f-stop, with lower iso sensitivity and more exposure time could be useful to enhance the quality, enhance the focusing , d.o.f and cause better result in the circle line of the stars.

Dave:

your use of light painting completely rules in these shots. I think that you break from the ordinary with light painting, and this is one of those roadside America stops where you've used the technique to a full advantage.

Thank you, G! Really appreciate that fine comment. I learned some lessons on this shoot and will try it again one of these days when the conditions are right. Mostly involving focal points.

Thank you, Barbara. I can't believe you've never heard of this, it's only a few hours from you. I've also noticed that it has been emulated quite frequently especially in OK. I saw a place near Tulsa that did this with a couple of cars.

It's really not just "some cars thrown in the sand", though. There is a whole method to the artist's madness. He actually engineered the holes so that the cars would be at the same exact angle, depth and direction.

It has become a major tourist attraction since the 70s. People are encouraged to put graffiti on the cars. Unfortunately, most pigs leave their empty paint cans strewn about even though the guy provides a dumpster. I moved about a hundred cans out of the picture and, because of the darkness, missed some.
