Hi Joggie ,

Thank YOU for All of the information... I only knew what I was told. I work for a florist and he told me they came from Hi. not sure what island but were sent here dried and he arranged them for a friend...

I'd never seen them before ...and him being a florist I really still am not clear if they also grow in the Hi. Is. or not (?)))

Regardless I appreciate learning and I like to be corrected if I am giving out the wrong information so I 'Thank YOU' very much :))
Regards,
Michele~

Hi Michelle - Great colour and detail of this bouquet. Please allow me to correct you on their origin. The big central one is without doubt a Protea cynaroides - the national flower of South Africa (and emblem of our national Cricket team. The other yellow/orange coloured ones are Leucospermum species (pincushions). These flowers are indigenous to the South African Cape fynbos which constitutes the smallest yet most species rich(in relation to total area)plant kingdom of the world. Cape fynbos only occur along the Western, Southern and Eastern mountains and coastal flats of the South African Cape province. It is very similar to the Machia of the mediteranean region, yet more diverse. A series of five large conservation areas were recently declared a World Heritage site and floral hot spot for conservation.

I hope I do not bore you to death with all the info but few people realize that the Dutch in Holland has made more money with South African flowers than South Africa has made with it's huge gold deposits! Regards.
Joggie
