About

Hram Svetog Save

Wikipedia says about Hram Svetog Save that it is the largest Orthodox church currently in use. It is dedicated to Saint Sava (founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church). It dominates the Belgrade cityscape.

It is believed that the location is where the remains of St. Sava were burned by the Ottoman ruler Sinan Pasha. 340 years later, construction of the new church began May 10, 1935 on the design of Aleksandar Deroko and Bogdan Nestorovic. The building of the church is financed exclusively by donations.

Construction ceased during the Nazy occupation of Belgrade and the early structure was used by the invaders as a parking lot; after the war, it served similar purposes until 1985, when it was decided to continue to build the temple taking in consideration new materials and methods.

The 4000 ton central dome, 82 metres high (to the tip of the cross) was built on the ground and took 40 days to lift, it was finally fitted on June 26, 1989.

The structure was mostly finished by 2004; however the inner decorations is largely unfinished.

Dear Francisco, I tried cloning...did not work, but I ended up cutting a bit of the pavement in front of it out and sizing it to fit over the post. It worked!:)

I tried to crop it out and it changed the perspective. Cloning would have been difficult for the perspective of the blocks and the variance of tonality. However, it's not impossible. A long weekend project? mmmm :-)

:^)

Very nice, Francisco. However, I would crop or clone out that post in the foreground.:)

Nice presentation, Francisco, effective HDR. It would be nice to see a little more of the church. I'm waiting to see more of this series.
