About AS we were waiting for the sun to rise here, Debbie and I met a bicyclist that cycled up from behind us at 7:30 am. He has been cycling for 2 years and started in Alaska and now has only a month to go , finishing in Ushuaia of the most southern Argentina.
Pretty COOL!!!
This is his website...lots of pics and good stories.

Just got back to Buenos Aires From El Calafate in Southern Patagonia after having 5 days of hiking and photographing. The weather was varied and moody which is just what i like. We did get one Blue day, as in all blue sky. I am not fond of those as the drama is limited for me...but good for tanning our super white canada like skin. I had a major disaster not long after getting there, a place i have been wanting to go to since i was 18 and am now 49.
My water bottle leaked all of it's 2 liters into the pack where my new D80 was, along with the 18-200mm nikkor VR lens.....ARGGGGGG. After seeing why there was water pouring from my pack!!!! i found my camera drowning and my lens half full of water. Needless to say nothing worked and i was in a HUGE SNIT....poor Debbie. I was in no mood to be consoled. Fortunately after letting it sit for a day it started to work a bit, well enough that i could keep taking photos. The auto focus never did come back and i could not leave the battery in the camera long or it would drain completely in short time. Never the less i still managed to cobble together another 1000 images with my limping D80....gotta say i was impressed that it worked at all.
Hey anyone want a slightly used camera and lens? haha.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for taking the time to view some of my new pics. I am happy to say that despite the dire camera situation at the time, it has for the most part come back to life and taken 1500 shots since. I guess as the lens and camera dried out more and more of it became functional.

Some how I've missed your excellent Argentina shots until now. This one is extra special. It is one of the most dramatic shots I have seen on this site. The light, colours, landforms, the road leading to the mountains and clouds are spectacular. You have captured it all flawlessly. The large panorama shows it off even better.
Well deserved award Tim, my congratulations. Sorry to hear about your camera problems. Having recently destroyed my 70-300 lens, I have some idea how you feel.
Best regards,
Joe

hi Kes,
Well it is now 6 days hence and my lens has fully recovered as of yesterday and the D80 works completely except that i can not leave the battery in it for long or it drains it of power...a bit of a pain having to pull the battery every time but i am happy that it works fully in all other respects now

Fine photography, Tim.

Wow, what a horror story. I once left a new Canon A1 with a 200mm lens on top of my car and...that's enough of that story. Suffice to say, I've felt your pain, man. lol. (now i can laugh...that was over 20 years ago.)
