About This was just a test... I was trying to go over the 1/250 flash sync limit of the Canon 1D and if I went higher, the frame would get a black band in the bottom... Then I started thinking how to make this work so i can speed up the shutter without cutting the picture in half...
Luckily I have a Canon 580ex flash that has a High-Speed Sync mode, so it would let me go over the 1/250 limitation. The camera flash has to be powerful enough for my studio flashes to "see" it but it works. Basically the onboard flash will trigger the others and there is no banding... At any shutter speed. This image in particular is at 1/8000!!! Which opens new possibilities for high-speed studio work and to "freeze" subjects over the Canon's 1/250 limit (1/500 on some Nikons)
U should try this. I don't think I discovered anything new here, but I have never seen anyone do it.

Nice work PP.

Maybe you should check out Mohammad A-Mumen's portfolio:

He has some pretty amazing high speed photographs in his portfolio.

This is very nice and a great experiment. What types of studio flashes did you use?

Yeah, I thought those might be doing it (they show up in the e-mail as & # 40 ; without the spaces). But both of these new messages do the same and they show up. I guess we can cross that theory out. Not sure why sometimes messages get to my e-mail but then are not posted to the thread.

the 580 is triggering the photocell on the studio flashes, which fire as soon as they "see" the onboard flash.

Look at the problem with the higher shutter speeds

Here is an example with the wireless Pocket Wizard, which is the same for the sync cord.

Funny that only 50 people care for this picture and for it's technical value but then again my next girl already got 50 views in 20 minutes...

Oh well. What matters is a friend of mine who owns an art gallery here in the Design District, saw this picture and thought it was a great piece of art... (His words) and bought it from me for $700... Not bad for a 10 minute light test huh?
Nobody appreciates anything around here, just the pu$$y and the Titties. But hey, that makes me a $hit load of money too.

loco, what lighting r u using??
in this set up are u using the 580EX with a physical cable or is it triggered via the actual initial flash??
i'm confused!

Peeps, you sure that that's just not a secret message that you have a new shipment of Absinthe (Absinto) in stock? Looks like Absinthe to me... The Perfect Drug according to Trent (Reznor) Very cool effect, I must say.......

I think there is something amiss with your ()'s. Seems that might be what's killing your comments (or at least keeping them from posting). That's the only thing I can see in the e-mail that looks like it MIGHT be problematic (they show as & characters). I'm not positive that 40 and 41 are the parentheses.

Anyway, that flash thing is odd. Do you have an example you could post to the thread here for reference (with the band)?

That's odd that it should have such a limitation. My Minolta 35mm can sync with it's flash up to 1/8000 at 3 fps (if memory serves). Is this a limitation for the on-board only or would it apply to flash attached to the boot? I've been kinda drooling over the Mark iii (as a side note).
