it's not dull, but atmospherically dense
to judge a pic only following the criteria of fitting into a living room (or an artist's toilet:)
is one of the worst criteria ever used:

Technically a beautiful photo. I always judge a post with the thought in mind, would I like to see this hanging on a wall. In this case while the needle is in sharp focus and the dof works for the image, the answer is "No". A good exercise in using a macro lens. Overall... it's dull.
