An excellent composition here, Sue! I like the way you've combined the old with the new, and that dramatic sky adds a lot of interest to the shot. Well done!
Dave.

Thanks Sharon... you filled in nicely my big blank space in the 'about' section :)

Think you are right... the Visitor centre is called The Cutter & it does have something to do with one of the tools used in the mine (think Ray's probably the one with the info here.. see his comment above) :)

Thanks Marky... this place is definately worth a visit with the old camera :) Looking forward to going back again sometime, for now though I have plenty to wade through from the one visit!

Very nice of Sharon to keep us all informed (I fail again with my lack of about! Shame on me! lol) Anyway... you should know by now.. us women DO know it all!!! lol ;)

Thanks Gary :)

We've been very fortunate to have some fantastic skies up here in Northumberland of late... alas though, always when I can't get out with the camera :/ lol

Sharon is right... the new Visitor centre at this Museum is called the Cutter... exact history of this tool is lost on me, though Ray's comment above does seem to explain it a bit.

What you can see in this shot is part of the roof, designed in the shape of this tool. Guess the fault here is my lack of about. Do love this angle though & have toned the colours in the photo using PS 6 to create the mood here.

Thank you once again for your comment
Keep well & bright x

Ah Sue, the old and the new eh. for Sharon's benifit, this sculpture represents the cutting machine itself, there were no blades, but picks which fit into the cutting head. If my memory serves me right. I used to work in the Blacksmith's shop at Lynemouth Colliery! A couple of guy's next to me use to set the pick sharpening machine up to sharpen the picks for these cutters!

hi gary, the modern sculpture is a new piece added to the museum recently as it has just had a lot of money spent on it doing it up for the public to visit, my father tells me that the new piece is meant to represent one of the cutting blades which used to cut off the coal down the mines? im sure many of the local usefilm users will correct me on this . take care, sharon

Good angle. If you took away the modern sculpture(?) this would be a powerful image on the old 'grim up north' theme. With the modern element it's a strong depiction of change and renaissance, even more so with a vivid blue sky, but we don't get so many of those, do we?
Regards, Gary
