About
Mare Island in Vallejo, California was a large US Naval shipyard that closed about 15 years ago. They left buildings dating back to the 1840s and 1850s. The architectue was astounding. This is a view of the area near the docks, some of the oldest buildings on the base.
The whole Island, what's not being environmentally cleaned up, is being privatized with factories, a college and new homes. It does appear they are also preserving quite a bit of the base.
Thanks, Gayle. No, didn't use any filters on this at all. Strictly adjustments including curves... I liked the colors of these buildings, too but decide b&w for this particular shot.
Love the angle you chose to shoot from... how often have I said that to you Dave??? LOL!
The effect is interesting... kinda "flat" as far as the buildings go, and like pressed very much into 2D (the way I see it) whilst the clouds are more 3D.... yes I know all images are actually 2D... but you understand what I mean!
I like it, though it has a slightly depressed atmosphere... but perhaps that's what "makes" it...
hey,did you use a chrome effect,or just tweaked the contrast and B/W points?....love the tone of this image...moody industrial...nice diagonals and good placement of the vent stack(?),or what i call the "pole thingy"...LOL..the brooding sky fits the image well...peace,gayle
