About A very hard question to me and I would be glad for any ideas/opinions: How much DoF is "right" on a macro when the same pattern repeats from near to far?

In other words: Would this be better with a greater/smaller DoF?

Thank you very much for the nice detailed comment, Andre! There seems to be no real recipe for the "right DoF" on such images. So experimenting is perhaps the only way.

Have a nice day,

Nick

Hi Nick,
I think this DOF is fine for the title of the image. The image does portray the "coming out of the depth" factor. I don't know if greater or lesser DOF would be better, as much as just different. You could probably post three different DOFs and get equal amount of positive and negative opinions.
I have to catch up on some more of your stuff later in the comments dept. Your macros are coming along really nice.

Thanks a lot, Ace! These are images that I shot a long time ago, so I don't know if I am still that good, since I don't do much nature photography anymore. But I have many more images of nature to post, that I shot some years ago.

Best wishes and thanks again.
