This adult gorilla at the Montreal zoo looked lonely and disconnected. The "feature attraction" didn't fail to thrill many people young and old, but I couldn't help but wonder how it must feel to be in a enclosed area day-after-day without anything to interact with. He just sat there along a dull gray concrete wall and stared at nothing in particular. Every once in a while, he would give only a quick glance at the visitors waving and shouting on the other side of the window. After a few minutes, he got up... moved a few feet further away until he was almost out of sight. Then he sat down again with the same lonely "stare". Photographed on August 25 2006. ISO 800.
I find it's usually the gorillas that look the most depressed in captivity. Certainly an evocative shot with a strong statement. I wish more zoo directors could see that.
