About Desaturated in PS in a bit complicated way:

I conveted the image from "RGB" to "Lab Color"
then I opened "Channels menu" (so we see channels: Lab, Lightness, a, b)
then I cancelled "Channel a" (so we see Alpha 1, Alpha 2)
then I cancelled Alpha 2 channel.

In that way I left "lightness channel" (at least I think so ;)

One may say that this is the image of light :)

Has to be the most beautiful b&w floral I've seen...delicate, an unusual pof (which I adore)...excellent detail, light, and composition!
Take care...Robin

Thanks

I actually found it on a nearby meadow. Went for some wild flowers&weeds (of course for my photos) and found those under an old apple tree. So probably it was a garden there in the past.
This is a new meadow for me. I moved from one side of my city to the oposite one . happily still have meadows so close :)

I took this photo at home with halogen light.

Yours is better. I have no idea how you shot this. I was out in the field - was yours indoors or maybe a purchased flower. I'm racking my brain to try to get floral shots as nice as yours.

Hi Michael,

You already answered to your question :)

I wanted it to be light, dreamy. The colour was too strong so decided to change it to B&W but simple desaturation wasn't good. Then thought about "lightness channel" in "Lab mode" (that is used for unsharp mask). I thought it would be great to leave only "lightness" so deleted the other channels :)
See above the updated info and the original image.

BTW, it looks that this is the same flower as on your last photo :)

Yes, the light was the most important here :)

Smiles,
nMK

Thank you Megan :)

I try my flowers not to look the same/typical as most of presented in the internet :)

Here is the oryginal photo, slightly brightened when converted from RAW to jpg.
I updated also info how I changed it from color to B&W (see in "about")

This is a fine piece of work. Almost as dreamy as your recent self portraits.

Love the shallow DOF, and I think a lot of people miss the importance of lighting - especially when you have mastered this wonderful soft backlighting that makes the image glow.

I think the B+W is wonderful, but what went into the decision to make this B+W?

Monika

This is not the typical flower shot that you see here. Most are of the centre of the flower and in bright tones, and i find photos of flowers a little dull because they all look the same. This however is exactly the opposite and the result is breathtaking. The down turned head and the soft focus of the flower give off an almost sad feeling. I love the grey tones but i do wonder what the original colours were. Great shot.

Megan.

Excellent Monika, the kind of photo of yours that I like more: light, soft, trasparent, ethereal, made of pure light. I take the picture with me.
Ciao.
