I don't think you should darken the background here, as the backlight is not overexposed, and it only serves to frame her muddy face.

Think I would prefer this with the inclusion of at least the hands at the top of the head if not the elbows, hands add so much expression, but the expression is one not to be missed, great texture in place from the mud, interesting and unconventional portrait.
