Apo is a technical peculiarity that mean that there is no chromatic aberration.
Macro: with this zoom lenses, between 100 and 200mm around, you can put it in the Macro version and take Macro shot...
For the price it's a very good lense.....

Concerning the bird: well, it really adds something, but imagining the picture as a big blow-up in my flat (or a gallery or something), I would prefer only to see the wonderful play of colours and light (and not the bird) for it could stand on its own.
