to me this is very creative piece of work than just leaving the image as it is and show it in a flat form, you did a great job to my poor understanding. As long as there is something would make the final image look good and pleasant for its viewer as it is in this image ,I would say why not ?
All of the best my friend.

Many thanks Gust@vo, Alicia, and Ray for your time and valued comments :)
Ray ~ I appreciate your indepth review.. I am in two minds with the use of the sumi-e filter so thought I'd throw it out for comment.. it isn't my favourite either. I often will try the buzz filter when there is TOO much detail and I want to concentrate more on the colours.. just a note re the 'Lemon Drops' shot as no filter was used on this one.. just a little crop and contrast adjustment.. cheers, susie

You certainly love experimentation my dear Susie. I'm not personally keen on too much interference with original studies as such, but lately you have introduced me to some very good examples of photoart in floral composition....lemondrops, flowers by the gate and the crocuses are the three I have particularly loved. This one hasn't worked as well for me and that might be due to the rich colour tone of the blooms. I think with the wonderful lighting and excellent dof this might have been better left without postwork, but hey, what do I know.
I first became involved with PS5 and 6, bought 7 upgraded to CS and then onto CS2 in due course. I haven't investigated all these techniques myself but marvel at those of you who do. I am more into removing unwanted items, substituting parts of one pic into another or building a picture using many images. All this I do for family amusement in the main. You still have a nicely composed floral study....well done you and please, keep on with the experimentation sweetie. My very best wishes to you as always....Ray
