i love your mom. immediatly, upon seeing this. she looks so awesome and like you just want to be her friend. what a great portrait you did. i bet she LOVES it!!i like the tree in the background - sort of feels like a tree of life, like she's seen a lot.

Nil....This is a great portrait of your mother. Natural pose, introspective expression and well chosen for B&W. My only word of caution to you is to be very carefull of your Background and plan for that in the shot. While the DOF is very good . . . the alternating light and dark in the background cannot be ignored even if completely unfocused and it becomes distracting from the noble portrait where the attention OUGHT to be. Other than the Background . . . I wouldn't change a thing.

1. DOF is great here..!! but at the time of taking picture if could be lil careful... about the extra light whict is the in the background. I mean to say ... we should always look for darker back ground (at least aportion of it) to maximise the effect of the lone face or may be a portion of a face ..!! (Just see this link of one of my photo...where the borderline of the face is surrounded by a black background only to give the maximum feel of the face..!!)

2. the the right region behind the face... we could do away with to make things exactly abiding by rule of 1/3rd and also giving the look a definite space to make the glance..!!

A good conversion to mono tone from colour negative Nil my friend. I love the informal posing for your Mother's portrait and the serene expression upon her face. Although the background is suitably diffused via a great dof choice it is still a bit intrusive. Well done though, a very pleasing result. My very best wishes to you as always.....Ray
