I guess my eyes just aren't working right. I had trouble seeing it as the bottom of the cup. It must be the perspective of the view. Thanks for the explanation.

Mary, Thank you so much for all of your comments today. I appreciate them very much. This was a discarded cup that had contained a sweet drink. That round part where the ants are gathered is the bottom of the cup where some of the drink had accumulated.

Ants sure seem to be able to find things easily and it is amazing how fast they do it. Hey, maybe you've just discovered a new kind of ant trap.

Great detailed shot Del, I don't know about Virginia, but Here in Iowa the ants have been something else this year, there seems to be more than usual, we have seen red ones and big black ones as well as the kind in your photo, we and our neibors have been trying to get rid of ant mound everywhere, and I hate them in the house!
