Hi Dave, Yes that is what I was thinking... maybe a little more included on the right just to off center that unsual plant. One thing on this version is that the details come through a bit better as it is enlarged. Been at work without PS so I can't post another version but it looks like you got the gist of what I was saying. All the best to you, Chris

Isn't it always amazing to see how many things grow in these harsh surroundings?
This is a nice capture Dave,
Lori :)

Thanks Chris. I have taken your suggestion and cropped this tighter to see how it looks. I hope that I understood what you were saying.
The black lava of the El Malpais is gorgeous but difficult to capture. It also is rather boring without the presence of the plant life found in the pool areas. My goal here was to try and emphasize the lava, curving around the pool with the abundant and different plant life as a back drop.
If this is not the crop you were thinking about, feel free to post a cropped version.
Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave,
Good composition and details. I'd say the green plant on top is a bit redundant, and maybe even a bit distracting, but then again, there's no real dominant subject to distract from. It's the overview that counts, though. In that sense, I think this photo would do great as a part of a series on the vulcanic biotope. As a stand alone, I think it lacks a bit of impact, but that's purely subjective, of course.
The image is well captured, though, but a slightly smaller aperture might include the background a bit stronger by showing it in focus too.
I like the combination of elements and colours - very nice.
Cheers,
Hugo

Hi Dave, All the pieces to this picture are interesting but I think all together it is a bit busy. I find it hard to focus on one thing and my eyes seem to roam around the picture. One suggestion I have is to crop the picture down to put a little more focus on something. My thoughts would have been take the bottom left corner and go up about 2/3 and over about a 1/2. I think the rocks and the weird looking cactus thing would grab my attention more. Cheers, Chris
