About Candid at a park of a young woman eating an ice cream cone...shot with my zoom from a distance in harsh sunlight
I isolated her via a crop for this one because it has a foreign film still shot look to me...but she had company and i will present that shot soon...

converted to B/W and tweaked contrast
via paintshop pro8

Feedback appreciated...

Gayle, I like this image a lot for some reason. The contrasty toning works for me, especially in the vein of the foreign film mood you described. Yet to me, this really needs something more in the composition. (I have seen the full shot with the cell phone dude.) I'm not sure I can describe this adequately, but it is her very windblown hair that troubles me. I recognize this is what was there to shoot, very pj in that regard. However, her windblown hair links her to the greater environment. That causes her to appear less pensive and introspective and more like she is impatient and annoyed. All this from hair! I must be shallow!

I think the shot that shows her point of annoyance holds more interest. But I like the toning in this one better.

I just wanted to tell you that I appreciate your contribution to this site, both in images (and comments) and your tireless contribution in forums. You make a difference here.

I quite like the subdued whites. You're right, it has the foreign film appeal. The crop looks great and your framing is ideal here.

Looking forward to seeing the other one...

Cheers!

hi and thanks for feedback,Paul...i tried your suggested version, but thought this way gave it that soft n' moody foreign film look...the original color one with "her companion" is so different from this one...will probably post it later,or tomorrow

Very nicely captured and isolated. The tones work well I think.

I think the muted whites work here, but I wonder if it would be stronger if you took this exposure the other way, and perhaps blew out the whites even more, instead of trying to subdue them, Gayle.

I like the darkness and negative space. It gives her space to 'think into'.
