I love the anticipation on his face. It's a wonderful shot. You are great with these candid shots or else these kids are fantastic models or perhaps both. MAry

Hey Jacob...absolutely no offense taken...I certainly can use critique to improve my work...I have however, as you and others said, been painfully aware of the vast differences in monitors, both in their capabilities and how they're tuned. This is a challenge for the digital media. I have two LCD monitors at home and one at work. I frequently check my work on all of them for a sanity check. My good friend Bill Telzerow, who also commented, has a monitor at work that is substatially different in color, saturation, and ability to handle noise than any I've used. So depending on your equipment there are great differences in the quality of a photo.
Please continue to comment and don't be shy about stating what you see... You'll probably get a comment back for me whether I agree of disagree.......Thanks

Yeah, didn't mean to come off sounding harsh if I did. I apologize if I offended you. I checked this (and left feedback) from a computer at work, without even thinking that monitors could play that much a difference.
From home, the blacks are black and the greys are even.
I still think it's a great shot! J

I generally try to consider the possible difference in the viewers perspective when reading critiques...so I generally don't overreact except if the critique is over the edge...also, there is always much more comment about tone & texture on the B&W photos

Larry...Great moment...! The concentration on his face as he approaches his next great adventure...and not you! And for a minute, I am going to hitch-hike on Jacob's comment... [On my monitor] the picture does have the [pop!] he describes...the outer band on the sleeve is a rich dark/dense [black]. Clean gradation of gray's throughout the picture. We see more and more differences in monitor presentation as we attempt to provide a clear sensible critique to some of the magnificent photography displayed on this site. Probably why critiques are requested by the editorial staff... :-)
Cheers,
Bill

You know, I think this shot has a lot of potential, but in my opinion it's a little flat in tonality. Perhaps you could bump up the lightness/contrast/levels/curves/etc. to give it a little pop?
On the positive side, I LOVE the way you framed this shot with the scenery and the focus is spot on.
Good job! J
