Truly a work of art, Bob. This has to be one of the purest reds I have seen in some time, with black overtones. The bottom swirl seems to support the rest of the blossom, with the eye drawn immediately to the tight folds in the upper right. The partially opened layer to the left is a study in repeating form itself. This one would be on my living room wall. Well done! Anson

This a great photograph. Wonderful DOF. I am a little surprised that with the long shutter speed you didn't have a lot of noise.

Thanks, Clifton, it's kind of you to return the critique. By the way, I went by the Sky Mirror this evening. At twilight, it glows soft blue, beaconlike. It seems a temple to light.

Hi Bob, As I said, it is what works best for me. You can only give it a try and see how they come out for you. Andre

Thanks, I've printed and saved you work flow to a pdf and saved it. I can use the help with file issues. Greatly appreciated.

Hi Bob, Well, you have some pretty big awards posting small images, so you must know what you are doing. I can't see why the image quality would fall apart when going to 750x750. I can only describe the process I use, but this might not work for you? I take most of my current shots using the 3mp setting. When I download to my pc or cdrw, I keep the original as a large jpeg file. Once I decide which one to work on, I resize the image to inside the 800x800pixel size recommended by Usefilm. Once I finish working on it in Photoshop, the the image usually ends up around 200 to 350kb (also just under Usefilm recommendations. That kind of process usually stops any major compression faults for me and seems to show up the way I like them on my monitor. I usually keep a larger file of most images in case I want to print them, or have them printed. I do a similar thing when scanning slides or prints. Save a larger file and resize to appros 800x800 in Photoshop before any additional post processing. Andre

Thanks, Andre. Larger images? When I try to, the image quality falls apart.

Very nice Bob! The transition from black to red throughout works nicely in this image. I wonder why you choose not to post larger images? Andre

Thank you, Lily, for your kindly, poetic words. I'm greatly flattered to have attracted attention for someone with a portfolio such as yours. I expecially like your Farmers' Market Sunflower. The dramatic subject is well related by your choice of light and, more so, your choice of camera position. More like that please.

Hi and thanks, Kathleen. I'm starting a series of Roses (and other flowers?) as if they were glamor pictures of movie stars. Let's see how long and well I stick to it! Your critique is more valuable because of your own beautiful images, especially of the baby.

Really nice shot, I like the way that you have kept it off centre, and used the petals circling around to add form to the image, along with the shadows. Colour and exposure are pretty much spot on. I can't find any fault in this...
