About Talk about escaping into yourself. I think sailors do that best. The sail boat in the picture is a Lightening, it's an old Olympic sailing class. The image was taken with a 100 x 400mm and the 2x converter. The converter is responsible for the loss of quality. Worse piece of equipment I ever bought.

Yes, as much as I hate to bash canon equipment this is really degrading on the 100x400. Maybe it does a better job on fast primes.

exquisitely cropped, Ron! Great job.
Is it the Canon 2x?

i love this shot - esp how the water fuzzes at the horizon!

Thank you Mary. I wanted to really isolate the lone small sailboat.

Beautiful picture- just love the amount of sky and colours. Really stretches the eyes.

Moved on emotion first then I did some reading on that 2x converter. They say it really depends on the lens that you put it on. Works best on good (as in L glass) prime lenses. My friend uses it a 1.4 on his 300mm L and loves it. I was aghast as soon as I put it on. The drop in Q and the loss of AF were alarming. Do yourself a favor a rent or borrow one first. Not all that they are made out to be. I would sacrifice reach for better quality anytime.

Ron:
First . . . I like the composition anyway . . . very well done despite the quality issue. Second . . . is this quality issue from your particular 2x converter or from 2x converters in general? I ask because I was considering picking one up.

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Well the quality is acceptable, I like your composition, the large space at the top and left side tells so much about freedom and the escape you are talking about. Yes maybe the bokeh is not so good using this converter but it created an intersting illusion at the background of water vaporizing from the sea.
nice shot Ron..
