Exactly, my friend!

Beyond all that calculations, there is that, what we call experience, fantasy, power of vision, you name it! All of the technology has to be used in that matured way, which makes a photo much more that what we see. Wisely, human, and thoughtfully.

Thank you for the great photo, Chuck! It has something unexplainably nice, something that really touches very deeply.

Just go on that inimmitable way!

I do think and agree with you... Though you have a great understanding of physics etc and pixels etc, I think that great photos come NOT easily.
There are many advantages to Digital and Film.
Keep it up.

Thank you so much, Chuck!

I just try to explain the reasons and the relations between all those quantities that are physically participated in the whole process of film photography. The real problem is not film itself, but the rather that the process contains so many steps. We capture some scene on film, which carries all the information needed for a great picture!

But then, we photograph the film again in order to get the positive out of the negative, we print the photographed negative, we scan the printed, photographed negative, and so it is clear that in so many steps also many errors have to occur! It is the chosen method of process and not the film that brings so many problems.

But the film itself is the almost analog - not pixeled but almost continuous mapping of the real world on a medium. And its contents still wait to be revealed in all their glory.

I started yesterday some experimenting and scanning of negatives and though I am no expert in this area, the results are overwhelming! What a brightness and a sharpness, and above all: What a fidelity to what my eyes have seen and considered fine for a photograph! I have to continue experimenting and I'll post my results as soon as possible.

If we only had a way to get the picture that is stored on a film - to decode its secrets - directly and without all those steps inbetween!

As about magazines, well, remember what the music magazines stated when digital came into music? So, isn't it funny that the best bands around play their concerts not on digital hardware, but on old good valve technology? I've been plaing guitar in a rock group since years and there is simply no DSP that sounds like a good Marshall. No IC that brings the power and expression of a Laney. You plug, you switch on, you play! The sound is there and the rest is in your fingers. (Or in your eyes, if you are in the visual domain.)

Thank you very much again and just keep mon shooting wondeful photos!

Nick:
Your comments and calculations are Great. So is your photography reflective of an age where film is taking a beating from magazines, AND PHOTOGRAPHERS IN GENERAL... But your photos show the greatness of film OVER DIGITAL.

Many many thanks for the great detailed comment, Giuseppe!

Lucerne is very photogenic in the night, especially in the neighborhoud of the river Reuss.

Thanks again and bouna Notte (=gute Nacht) to you!

Beautiful this one Nick. Excellent the well equilibrated diagonal composition that cuts the image almost in two parts: on the right empty and black, on the left full of vivid colours as a rainbow. A splendid light contrast (my passion) that creates a nice pattern.
Bellissima!
Buona notte Nick.

Oh, didn't think about that, but, well... yes, it has something that reminds one thereof.

Many many thanks for the idea, Akaky!

Nick, this reminds me of one of Whistler's Nocturnes. Great shot.
