Hi Mary,

This guy is about 10" in diameter, considered a medium sized turtle. I think his neck is not unusually long, it's just his posture at the moment.

This is a slimy looking place, but a great habitat for this guy. I've never seen one of this type of turtle. How big is he? He looks like a good size. Is his neck longer than other turtles, or is that just the perspective here? Another wonderful shot.

Yes, they are becoming increasingly difficult to find, and are on "threatened" status here in Ontario. I just moved one off the highway north of Kingston a few days ago, but had a lunch gathering I was already late to get to so didn't have time to photograph it. There are a couple of surveys being done currently, the call has been put out through the nature list to report sightings of these and some other turtles, if you're interested contact me at damselfly747@yahoo.ca and I'll send you the information.
