Thanks, Dave. I did combine two layers of different exposures of the one RAW file and masked the sky. It might work better, as you say, if I had two differently exposed photos rather than the one RAW.

A gorgeous scene, Eb, with great colours and very good DOF to keep it all nice and sharp! To extend the range you might have to go the sandwiching of differently exposed layers, but that technique is way beyond me!
