About The terminal for the Prairie Dog Central train in Winnipeg. It's a restored vintage train station. The trains have cars ranging back to the early 1900's. and next summer will have a restored steam locomotive to pull them on weekend excursions lasting a couple of hours out of the city to local towns.

The snow creates a wonderful and appropriate atmosphere. I guess that once the steam loco is running there will many opportunities for more great shots here.

Wow Dave - congrats - great shot with a wonderful amount of views and critiques. I cannot believe the weather you have - wow that looks cold - and the scene could be out of Fiddler on The Roof or Dr Zivargo (spell?).
Well done!!!!!!

Shirley

I like the differnt shapes and lines to this scene. I'm surprised that you got any color out of the building. They must be very vibrant. The snow blowing around sure give this picture the mood. Very nice.

A really beautiful capture; the cold is uncomfortably real even sitting in this coastal southern town where the temperature two days ago reached 80 degrees F! This is a beautifully rendered shot in what I can only suppose to be extremely challenging technical conditions. Well done . . .

Best regards,
--George

Hi Ron, thanks for the comment! No, it's all real snow! I try to protect the camera, usually under my coat as much as possible, and try to keep anything off the lens (I always keep a UV filter on) and the batteries warm.
Dave.

I love the shot, great scene , well composed. How does one take his camera out in weather like this? Any of this snow "made" in PS?

Andre Denis Andre Denis   {K:66407} 3/5/2006
Very nice Dave!
It's like going back into another era. The feeling of loneliness created by this image is quite strong. The title works too, helping to plant in the mind the feeling that someone has just left, disappearing into the snow in the distance.
You've dropped a friend, lover or family member off at the station and turn around one last time for a last look before leaving yourself.

Fabulous Winter's scene Dave and it is the kind of shot reminiscent of some Western Movie I can't put a name to; one where the bad guys meet up to sort out a good guy.
Wonderful atmospheric composition and despite the conditions the details are unmistakable..Wow Dave, you must be frozen everytime you come to the end of a shoot. Well done to you my friend. My very best wishes to you as always.....Ray

Wouldn't want to miss that last train, looks way to cold. I bet it is a great turist attraction in the summer. This photo has a wonderful quiet feel to it. Alison

Brilliant- great the way the colours merge and the lines gently disappear at that angle. Very atmospheric and mysterious- like a film scene.

Excellent perspective and I like the snow covering the ground but not the tracks. I go back far enough to remember the water tank in the station of our little rural town. This photo brings back pleasant memories. Del.

Picture perfect, Dave! I like the snow blown atmosphere, yet still able to read the sign! The heritage station actually becomes more real given the white out. It is good of you to photograph in this inclement weather!
