About Death Valley's Iconic scene - Manley Beacon as seen from Zabriskie Point. The use of a long lens here distorts size and distance. The beacon, basking in sunrise gold, is several hundred feet high. The shaded mountains are on the other side of the valley, miles away. Those mountains rise from below sea level to 12,000 feet. Seen in the morning light like theis, the beacon just glows like a lantern.
