Ray - You are so lucky!!!! This is an American Woodcock. I have been trying to get a shot of one of these for months. These are VERY spooky game birds.

This is a Common Snipe (Gallinago gallinago). Found in marshes, wet fields, runoff ditches, etc. -- a wet habitat bird. Explosive takeoff speeds, but will sometimes allow you to get close before it bolts. Juveniles/males/females hard to distinguish. Nice photo!
