Like the panoramic crop.
Was this a found in situ photograph, or did you revert back to child hood and aquire the trollies especially for the photgraph. The length some photographers goto, to get the photograph, lol

Thanks very much for your comment, Hugo! I wanted to emphasize the discordant note of the shopping cart, which becomes more pronounced against a clean water pattern, as opposed to being seen in a dirty pool :)

Hi Ina, You have a great eye for detail. I could go on about the patheticness of the scene, and into the story how the cart ended up in the water, but I rather wouldn't. The horizontally off centered composition is fantastic, allowing a good view on the patterns of the flowing water. Funny to notice once again how much the quality of the small sized image differs from the full size pano.

The gradient in the water, from yellow (-ish) to blue (-ish) adds a lot to this photo. A very good catch!

Cheers,

hugo

Hi Eb, "a picture is worth a thousand words", it makes you look, and sometimes it's not pleasant to see - Thanks for all your comments, looking forward to your new panoramas from B.C. :) Ina

I think it is a worthwhile presentation, especially with enhanced sharpness and detail in panorama mode. I have more than once seen a cart dumped in a water course and have felt displeasure but not given it a long look. A photograph is different since it makes a stronger statement and forces one to look deeper.

Hi Rina, Thanks for your thoughts! I think plastic bags and bottles are a hazard too, and probably those are discarded even more often. Best regards, Ina

Thanks Tracey, I love the word "trolley" - it's like "I say tomato, you say tomahto" - it's a shame people take these and don't return them.

Ina Nicolae Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 2/2/2006
Thanks Manu, we have these and many other things in the rivers :) Nowadays many stores have a locking device where you insert a coin to get a cart and then you get it back only if you return it. I suppose to some it still wouldn't matter to lose 25 cents.

Hi Brian, That's why probably they introduced the system with the quarter and the chain :)

A shopping trolley? we have alot of these found in canals as people are to lazy to take them back, shouldn't take them in the first place, its such a shame to see this in the waterways, such a simple thing I wouldnt think to take a photo of this but I have learnt from this site some of the simplist things look really good, well caught Tracey..

Perfect detail, colour and composition. Makes an interesting, thought-provoking environmental statement. I can see this image being used in a public awareness campaign. Particularly about how carelessness can impact on our waterways.

I like the other suggestions too!

Cheers
Rina

Thanks Ann, and What a story!!! A detective movie, complete with all the gory details! Very creative! I just saw it as it was, laying in there, like a modern installation, slowly being covered by weeds. I saw a couple of Canada geese and they may even use it as nest! A nice goose condo on the water, with a huge balcony :) Cheers, Ina

Ina the forensic photographer,

It almost looks like an abstract forensic scene. The victim being the cart laying on it's side and cause of death being slit wrists as shown by the red blood still staining the victim, strangulation by seaweed then drowning (just to make sure). Body wasn't sufficiently weighted so it floated to the surface to be discovered by a couple of kayakers who preferred not to be interviewed or photographed at this time due to their. distressed state. :) YEs I would call this an urban scene. :) Well seen and captured Scoop Ina.

Cheers - Ann :)

Hi Susie, as a matter of fact I got a good number of shots from many angles. This was right under that old bridge from my previous picture, and not too far from the antique shop. The weeds are caught in it, most likely brought by the water. Thanks very much for your comment, I thought it was interesting :) Ina

Very good photo Ina. Urban trash indeed! Did you just stop in your tracks and think, "Wow, I've gotta get a shot of that!" ?? Great presentation, it really makes me wonder hows in the heck it got there, especially with that bunch of grass on it. Hmmmmm...

Thanks Kathy, you made me laugh! I've been photographing urban trash for many years, I just don't post it often :) You wouldn't believe what's on my hard drive :)

Okay, Ina, this is the shot of someone who views the whole world around them as "What would that look like in a photograph???" :) Shopping cart aside, I really like the blues in the water and the way that the light is coming in from the top left. Nicely done!
