As a horse person . . . I'd like to see more of the neck on the left side of the photo as well as a bit more chest. It just seems like it is too closely cropped. Remember that if framed and/or matted that the frame/mat will be so close to the horse's nose. The silver on the halter looks a bit blown out, but the colors look fine on my PC. No, it wasn't an overcast day, it was actually quite sunny. This is a strange comment, but I have DSL and my pictures look really good and sharp on my computer. Right now I am on another, with dial up, and my pictures look really....bad I guess. They are not sharp like on my computer. Why is this? This pic looked good when I uploaded etc, and now on this computer I see why you say that!!! That is very strange.
I didn't use a flash because it was sunny...I'm not sure why it looks this way.....

Ashley, i'm guessing this was an overcast day maybe and no flash was used? You have about as much contrast swing as is possible, very difficult to handle. The silver on Abbeys' bridle is burned out and detracts from her beauty. Maybe try your flash and stop down 1/3 stop. Or if all else fails try shooting her without the bridle. Everything else about your shot is good. Keep up the good work, you may find you're getting paid at those horse shows. Think about it fun taking photos and money for more equipement.

I like the way the horse is framed here. I also like the color and the way his (her) head is turned. If it is a show horse, though, wouldn't it have been good to take some of the whole body? Or maybe you have some of those. However, I really like the close-up view of her head and the way the background is faded out. THe coloring of the background is very nice too.
