Thanks Mary! I think you are correct about isolating the tree from the background. I'll have to give it a try sometime.

This is one very beautiful tree, Pierre. I sure can see why it would catch your attention. I think Jim has a point about having the tree stand out more from the background. Leaving the tree and partially desaturating the rest would probably look really good. Having said that, I would not know how to do that but I don't doubt that you have the skill. MAry

Hi Jim,
I appreciate your commenting! I agree on the contrast issue and I see what you mean. When I took this shot, I was hoping the yellow leaves would stand out against the background foliage, as they sure did so to the eye. But of course... what the eye sees, the camera can't always capture quite as well. I think that having this tree against a clear blue sky would have been the best solution, but I may try to experiement with your B&W background idea.... thanks!

Tough subject and situation to capture. The lack of contrast between the tree and the background makes it difficult to clearly make out the form of the tree. The coloring of foliage is great, as is the lighting. I'm not sure there is a way to really make this work as a straight shot. Perhaps as a B&W (which in my opinion would defeat the purpose of the "Splash of Yellow") would bettr bring out the textures and form of your subject. Or perhaps a color seperation image where the tree retains color but the background is B&W. Perhaps something to experiment with.
