Location City -  Dunmore East
State -  WATERFORD
Country - Ireland   Ireland
About This lighthouse is located on the Waterford shore by the pier-head directly across the entrance to Waterford Harbour from the Hook Head tower. Its fluted Doric column and cast-iron lattice balcony make it unique among Irish lighthouses. It used oil lamps until 1922 when it was converted to acetylene. In 1964 it was converted to electricity.

This image is made up of 9 seperate shots, all stiched together in PT Gui. They were all shot as TIFFs. I exposed for the sky and dragged the detail slowly from the shadows in PS. The lighthouse needed perspective correction too. All in all I used about 12 adjustment layers. Finally the image was sharpened slightly in Nikon Capture 4.
** UPDATE** This was originally posted last night but after a studying the print for a while I decided to go at it again. Main feature is the wall was adjusted to match the original perspective I was after. I history brushed the entire sky to create a more natural light fall-off effect between the concrete wall and the sky. Still a little unsure of the lighthouse, dont know whether to brighten it more. I think it looks more natural as is.

Leave it as it is Shane...its spot on, you will drive yourself even madder if you start faffing with it any more....excellent patience with good balance..

I'd leave the lighthouse dark Shane, seems more natural as the pictures light is coming from behind it. Just show a little detail. Great lighting, the rain really helped get this shot - the reflections are great.

Hi Shane, spectacular tones, and a very stong point of view. Using the reflection of sky and lighthouse as well as the guiding line created by the wall. It uses the entire frame very well, I like this one alot, very well captured. Good postprocessing, too.

As to dodging or burning the lighthouse, I can see the dilemma. Burning the lighthouse increases the risk of loosing the details, but dodging it reduces the effective counter balance to the wall in the composition. My guess is to leave it as is...:)

Cheers,

Hugo

Wow, I love it! Job well done! The perspective is superb and the colors and details are amazing.

I think I like the lighthouse the way it is. I wouldn't lighten or darken it.

Good job!

I think the lighthouse is good as is, it has the right amount of detail & looks natural in the photo. I like the angle of the wall, nice lead-in line.
