Joggie the idea of contrasting the wonderful texture of the weathered wood with the blurred background works well. My wife and I had the privilege of being the only campers at Sesriem back in 1974 and I am sure I will never forget the magical experience of the total silence that fell when the barking geckos went to sleep about an hour after sunset.

This one is more successful to my way of seeing things. The foreground occupies a higher percentage of the composition and, hence the distant trees are more of a supporting factor and not in need of being in focus. You have made me think about this type of possibility in composition and it may come in handy in the future.
Cheers, Tim

Great foreground detail and optical reversal where the blurry background is the frame. The image balances beautifully, Joggie! Eb

Joggie, this is beautiful... Time and the elements have created a natural wonder... If only we would look in Natures Gallery more often...:)

I love tree barks and this is a beauty- hard to believe it is dead. The warm colours, clarity and texture of the curves and lines- wonderful to follow.

I definitely prefer this shot to the other one you posted on the horizontal. Here the luxurious texture of the dead tree comes out superbly! It's as if a wood carver has been doing a great job there! Magnificent texture and patterns washed in a warm colour! A winner! Regards, YT

Excellent composition, Joggie, showing the whole trees in the background while framing it with the beautiful wood and texture of the foreground tree. Another of your fine shots from the Sesriem, a most beautiful place.
Best to you, Dave
