  Q. Adjusting shutter speed

Asked by Lisa Carricato    (K=20) on 9/28/2006
I recently purchased a Panasonic Lumix digital camera (12x zoom) and although the manual says that the shutter speed can be manually adjusted, I haven't been able to figure out how.
I take many photos of my kids' sports events and am trying to capture action and movement without blur.
The camera has a sport setting on the dial but I get blurring even with that.
If anyone could help me with this, I'd appreciate it.

The fastest shutter speed you should get with that would be 1/2000sec. Should be fast enough . . . you get a faster speed on the sport setting, but I think the Shutter speed priority or Manual settings should also allow you to set the speed. Your mode dial should have Panning - Pan with fast moving subjects to blur the background
Sports - Faster shutter speeds to freeze action subjects
Portrait - Portrait mode uses large aperture to help blur backgrounds
Macro - Macro focus mode for closeup photography
P - Program AE which is a point-n-shoot simple mode
A/S/M - Aperture priority, Shutter priority and Manual modes

Once in the proper area . . . navigate the menu to set the shutter speed. If you have your documnetation . . . it should list it well. Otherwise you can do a google search. Instructions for one of them were easily found at www.steves-digicams.com/2003_reviews/fz10.html This might work for you or you can select a different model when you do the search . . . Hope this helps!

To adjust shutter speed on a Panasonic Lumix camera:
(1) switch top dial to "S" or "M"
(2) press "EXPOSURE" button on the back
(3) increase/decrease shutter speed by pressing the left or right of the back dial
