Hi Sally, this is quite a complicated question, not so easy to answer in such a small box. My suggestion is that you buy a coursebook on Photoshop and study it first. I agree with György, check out a book called "How to cheat in Photoshop" by Steve Caplin (Focal Press), it's a very good book in exactly what you are looking for.
