  Q. epson stylus photo 1200 drivers

Asked by M *    (K=2614) on 11/13/2004
I got a epson stylus photo 1200 from a friend but he couldnt find the cd for it and I can not seem to get the drivers to work that I downloaded from epson to work on win xp. Is it possible for someone to send these to me any help would be good.
thank you

Well, you might be somewhat disappointed...

Epson does not really provide good support for 1200 under Windows XP -- its product lifecycle is pretty much over.

That is, they never published their own drivers for XP, and I do not think that drivers for other windows versions will work very well under it.

The basic epson driver included with XP will, nevertheless, work with the 1200 out-of-the-box.

You can get most of the manuals and the latest Status Monitor from the epson site. The status monitor will allow you to monitor ink levels and perform service and head cleaning directly from the PC, rather than printer buttons.

I do not know whether 1200 support included with XP will allow you to select different paper profiles, or how much color management it will allow you to do.

1200 is a pretty solid printer, and one I have works well, although these days my kids use it. It has a tendency to clog when used with non-epson print cartridges, so, although stuff from epson is pricier, it ends up lasting longer.

If you're still in need of some old drivers, drop me an e-mail.

Michael

Did you get any joy with Epson 1200 drivers for XP?

I also have problems with mine. Haven't used it a lot, so don't want to dump it yet. Grateful for any help.

Steve

I downloaded the drivers for win 2000 because that is what xp is based off of and they work fine for me so far. epson currently does not have xp drivers and I Doubt they will for this model.

Thanks Michael

I'll try the one you say.

My main problem is that the prints come out MUCH more faint (lighter and washed out) than they look on screen. It must be more than a simple calibration problem. My screen won't go bright enough to replicate the prints I get!

I've been using my 1200 with XP for 6 months now. It works beautifully, and all the functions, profiles, custom paper size options, etc. work fine. I downloaded the 2000 driver from the Epson website, upon the advice from Epson email tech support. Also, I use non Epson inks and have had a clog only once, and that was when the printer went unused for a couple of months.
Epson tech support responded quickly to my inquirey. Perhaps you should check with them.
