  Q. Pentax 645- Problem! :(
CorrieLynn Jacobsen
Asked by CorrieLynn Jacobsen    (K=9882) on 11/5/2005
Ive just returned from kansas-my medium format went bonkers on the trip.(Just purchased it about a month ago, maybe even less).
I dont know what happened, but these are the symtoms...
The lcd panel would dim, so would the light meter, and then turn off. I'd have to squeeze the grip really hard(as in pressing the batteries a bit) to get it to come back on. Then when i released the shutter, it would stay open! i'd have to turn the camera off, and then on again to get the shutter to close again. Sometimes the lightmeter would work, while the shutter wouldnt release at all. I will take it in to a shop, but im afraid most are closed for the weekend now.
Im thinking (hoping) its a problem with the grip?? When i bought it(dont worry, didnt pay much)there was some corrosion in the battery case, which cleaned up nicely-but im wondering if its causing problems now. Or if theres a short somewhere...
Im just hoping its not the camera. The lightmeter seemed to be working accurately when it did work, but then it would shut off like it wasnt getting enough power.
Also, the only other thing i could think of, was that i was using the 220 back for the first time, rather than the 120. I dont know if a faulty back would cause all this or not...
Any tips or suggestions much appreciated!!

(and yes, i still got some pictures-i brought my 35mm. ;)

Thanks
CorrieLynn

Try some new batteries as well and clean the contacts in the grip.
