  Q. Full body portraits with a macro lense
Autumn  Olstad
Asked by Autumn  Olstad    (K=23) on 2/23/2010
I'm taking stock photography for my own art work and I need to do full body shots. I work in a smaller studio with limited space, 20 ft or so, and I was wondering if I could get away with using a macro lens for my shots because I like the sharpness. Which lens do you recommend for full body macro at a short distance? Can I even take short range pictures with a macro lens and get the full body?

50mm macro lens on Full Frame camera body will work just fine. You'll need little space and good lighting kit.

I have Sony A850 and and can use Maxxum 50mm f/1.7 for it, Maxxum 50mm 2.8 macro 1:1

On other side dedicated portrait lenses like 100mm f/2, or 135mm f/1.8 do much better bokeh (background quality)

I am not sure what you mean by full body shots, if you mean model full body then the macro lenses are not designed for such work, with limitted place you can use a lens of 35MM, or use a zoom lens of 28-70MM and check the aprociate range which give you a full body shots.

Thank you

Try a Wide Angel Lens!!! 10-22mm !

I'm gotten used to using my 100 mm macro, for full body shots, but the distance that you need, needs to be great, or things aren't in focus, I actually have to back up a lot...when I take pictures, spectators think it's weird!
