Wayne,

I am replying to Paul's comment(s) to make this a three-way conversation especially because he was the only one to have taken an effort so far in assisting you in your endeavor of this piece.

His comments technically are correct for in-the-field applications and please remember those in the future.

I, myself, have another alternative concerning editing by converting not salvaging this image to B&W per the attached. A bit of cropping was also performed:

1. Off the bottom to remove the 'hot' sand.
2. Off the left and moreso the right to make the two main balancing acts centered.

Hope you both like it while I hated to sacrifice the colours of the desert foilage of the bushes all along the southern border.

What a gorgeous place!
I think for strongly lit images like this, it helps if you'll under expose by 1 or even 2 stops, then restore shadow details during editing. That prevents the highlights from blowing out like they did here.
